Stimulus Payment Date for SSI & SSDI Finally Announced

On March 30, the IRS and Treasury announced stimulus payments will be issued over the weekend of April 3-4, 2021 to SSI, SSDI, and other Social Security recipients who do not normally file a tax return. They project the majority of these payments will be sent electronically and received April 7. These are the $1,400 stimulus payments from the 3rd COVID Relief law. Some people started receiving payments as early as March 12 by direct deposit, via paper checks, or debit cards through the US Mail. There was concern about the delay in payments to those most in need, however. Social Security and the IRS promised more information when it was available - on March 30 we finally have some guidance. We explain payment dates, action steps, what type of payment to expect, and interesting notes on using the Get My Payment tool.
