Is Trust Structures Still the Best in 2026? | Broker Explains

🚨 CONTROVERSIAL OPINION: Family trusts are becoming one of the most OVERHYPED ways to hold residential investment property.

I said it.

For the last 20 years, every property seminar had the same advice...

"Just buy it in a trust."

Asset protection.
Income splitting.
Bucket company.
Rinse and repeat.

But after the May tax changes...

I'm starting to think most everyday PAYG investors are overcomplicating their lives.

Here's why.

Trusts now face:
❌ Higher setup costs.
❌ More accounting.
❌ More paperwork.
❌ Higher land tax in many states.
❌ And from 2028, discretionary trust distributions are expected to face a 30% minimum tax rate.

Meanwhile...

The average investor is buying ONE investment property worth $700k-$1m.

At that level...

Is a trust really giving you enough benefit to justify the complexity?

Or are accountants and property spruikers still recommending strategies that made sense 10 years ago?

Maybe the boring answer...

Buying in your own name...

...is becoming the smarter play again for most Australians.

Watch this vid to decide... 😬
