Can a debt buyer truly collect against me?

This is a question that our clients will ask frequently, and it's a great question.

The answer really comes down to two main questions.

Do they really own the debt?

Do you owe the debt?

The only way to know whether they own the debt is for you to see the whole purchase agreement, which they never want to show.

Unfortunately it's easier to either force them to show you the whole agreement when they've sued you (or lose their case) than it is when they're contacting you by phone or mail.

If you don't owe the debt, then they can't collect on you either.
