Rescue Parrots Are The Best #parrots #cockatoo #macaw #birbs

I don’t have a ton of free time, but I absolutely love being able to spend a few hours every couple of weeks volunteering at my local bird sanctuary.

As a bird person, you naturally want every bird to love you—but the reality is, that’s just not how it works. Over time, I’ve come to believe there are four distinct personality types you’ll encounter when working with adult parrots:

1. Instant Soulmates – These birds choose you. The moment you lock eyes, you just know you’re going to be best friends for life.

2. Sworn Enemies – These birds want nothing more than to see you suffer. You probably didn’t do anything wrong, but on a cosmic level, they hate you with every fiber of their being.

3. Curious but Cautious – These parrots are usually working through some trust issues due to past experiences. With time and patience, you can often win them over. They might become your soulmate bird—or at least a quirky, loyal friend 😅.

4. Aviary Birds – These birds simply aren’t interested in bonding with humans. They may never fully tame down, but they can still live happy, enriched lives in the right environment. I have a few of these myself. They get plenty of out-of-cage time, and with consistent routine and training, they go back into their enclosures on their own—no handling needed.
