Yearling brown bears climbing into trees for safety. Martinselkonen, 7 June 2022

These yearlings went up the trees faster than lightning, as soon as Tuima (the big male, dark brown) and his bride had finished mating and looked like they might get grumpy. In their first year of life (which these guys are already way past) bear cubs spend a large proportion of their time up in trees to escape other bears, and other predators. Their mum expects them to, and as seen here, she does not directly block the other bears. She knows her yearlings can climb, and so she just faces the other bears.
