Q1 : What is a crystal oscillator circuit ?
Answer: crystal oscillator is an electric oscillator type circuit that uses a piezoelectric resonator, a crystal, as its frequency-determining element. Crystal is the common term used in electronics for the frequency-determining component, a wafer of quartz crystal or ceramic with electrodes connected to it.
Q2 : Why crystal oscillators are used ?
Answer : Usually, crystal oscillators are preferred in microcontrollers due to advantages such as accuracy, compactness, low cost, low power consumption, and high-frequency generation. A crystal oscillator is good at providing stable output for a long duration and is popular for its stability and durability.
Q3 : What is equivalent circuit of crystal oscillator ?
Answer: equivalent circuit consists of L1 (motional inductance), and C0(shunt capacitance). All the parameters can be customized through design but are tied together so that a change to one parameter changes other parameters.
Q4 : How do oscillators work ?
Answer : There are many types of electronic oscillators, but they all operate according to the same basic principle: an oscillator always employs a sensitive amplifier whose output is fed back to the input in phase. Thus, the signal regenerates and sustains itself. This is known as positive feedback.

Q6 : What happens when you run electricity through quartz ?
Answer : Quartz crystals are a piezoelectric material. So, what people do to make them vibrate is apply a voltage, which distorts the crystal (kind of like applying a force to compress a spring), and then when the voltage is removed, the crystal springs back into place, which creates an electric field.
Q7 : What is the output of crystal oscillator ?
Answer : Sine Wave - is the standard or 'natural' signal output of a crystal or oscillator circuit. It consists of one fundamental sinusoidal frequency output. The linearity sine wave outputs offer the best phase noise performance of all the outputs.
