The Indian Air Force is looking to expand its Airborne Early Warning and Control capabilities.
A DRDO proposal from 2019 suggested developing a C-295-based AWACS platform equipped with the Netra radar.
The idea is gaining attention due to the aircraft's strong operational advantages.
The C-295 offers an endurance of up to 11–13 hours, significantly higher than the EMB-145-based Netra.
Longer endurance would allow extended surveillance missions and improved coverage.
The platform can also reduce the number of sorties required for continuous monitoring.
Newly manufactured C-295 airframes can be customized from the start for AEW&C missions.
This allows optimized integration of radar systems, mission consoles, cooling, and power generation equipment.
The project could strengthen India's indigenous airborne surveillance capabilities.
If pursued, a C-295-based Netra Mk-1A could become a major force multiplier for the IAF.
