Rent Tripled, Economy Crashed, Retail Isn’t Easy | But We Kept Growing

Back in 2018–2019, we had the incredible opportunity to open a 5,000 sq. ft. retail store right next to Sawgrass Mills Mall. Starting with a manageable \$5,000 monthly rent, we gained firsthand experience in retail, built lasting connections, and bought amazing deals that walked in daily. Although the rent eventually tripled and led us to move on after three years, the experience helped us grow and adapt. Retail was far from easy—especially during the 2008–2009 economic downturn—but our diversification beyond sports cards into all kinds of collectibles allowed us to weather the storm and continue expanding.
🔹 Petrucco’s Collectibles opened a 5,000 sq. ft. retail store near Sawgrass Mall around 2018–2019, initially paying \$5,000/month in rent.
🔹 The store allowed them to learn retail, buy walk-in deals daily, and build lasting connections.
🔹 Rent eventually tripled to \$15,000/month, prompting them to leave after three years.
🔹 Retail proved challenging, but the experience was valuable for business growth and networking.
🔹 Diversification beyond sports cards helped them survive the 2008–2009 economic downturn and remain resilient.
