March 25th, 2021 Long Track Tornadoes | CBS 42

Here's our full wall-to-wall coverage of an outbreak of numerous long track tornadoes across Central Alabama on March 25th, 2021.

Starting at just before 12 PM, a series of powerful supercell thunderstorms began forming over Alabama as an area of low pressure rapidly deepened to the Northwest in the Mississippi Delta region of Arkansas.

For 8 continuous hours, Tornado Warnings were issued by the National Weather Service office in Birmingham, as each of these supercells formed multiple different tornadoes along their respective paths.

Some remarkable statistics to share about this outbreak:

-10 separate tornadoes in total...7 of which were considered STRONG (EF-2 or greater) (4 EF-3's, 3 EF-2's).
-The Sawyerville/Centreville/Calera tornado was the 7th longest track tornado in state history, tracking continuously for 80.38 miles & on the ground for 98 minutes. It reached a maximum width of 1.3 MILES.
-The early-afternoon supercell was responsible for FOUR separate tornadoes, THREE of which were rated EF-3 (over 140 mph winds). This included the Elliotts Creek EF-3, the West Blocton/Helena/Eagle Point EF-3, and the deadly Ohatchee EF-3.
-5 people lost their lives during this outbreak, specifically during the Ohatchee EF-3 tornado. 23 others sustained serious injuries from all the various tornadoes that formed on that day.
