Median Nerve Floss | Nerve Glide for Carpal Tunnel and Arm Pain | Livonia Chiropractor
The Median Nerve Floss exercise is one of the most effective neurodynamic techniques for reducing nerve irritation and improving mobility. This exercise is often used to relieve symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome, including numbness in the hand and nerve tension that runs from the neck down the arm.
In this video, Dr. Travis Dockery from Life in Motion Chiropractic in Livonia, Michigan, demonstrates how to properly perform the median nerve floss. This safe and controlled movement works by tensioning one side of the nerve system while creating slack on the other, allowing the nerve to glide more freely.
How to Perform:
- Position One (Tension): Depress your shoulder blade, extend your shoulder, straighten your elbow, extend your wrist and fingers. From here, lean your head toward your hand to create slack in the neck.
- Position Two (Slack): Flex the shoulder, bend the elbow, flex the wrist and fingers, curling upward. Lean your head away from the arm to increase neck tension.
Alternate smoothly between these two positions — like floss moving back and forth — for several repetitions. This creates gentle mobilization of the median nerve
Benefits of the Median Nerve Floss:
- Helps reduce numbness, tingling, or burning in the hand
- Improves the mobility of the median nerve through the arm
- Can relieve tension related to carpal tunnel syndrome
- Promotes healthy nerve gliding and function
⚠️ Important: Always consult your chiropractor or healthcare provider before beginning nerve flossing, especially if you have severe or persistent symptoms.
