The Facebook Marketplace algorithm will work for you if you know how to train it
The Facebook Marketplace algorithm will work for you if you know how to train it.
I’ve been hunting the Lenox Spice Garden for years. Complete sets of this discontinued 1992 collection almost never come up locally, and when they do, they’re either $900+ or gone within hours.
So I stopped searching locally entirely and tried this instead:
Here’s what I did:
→ Expanded my radius to the max (250 miles) and moved it all over the country. I favorited every full set I could find, no matter where they were based, even the overpriced ones. That single habit starts teaching the algorithm what to surface for you.
→ Favorited similar listings consistently (like the spice village or the Lenox carousel set), even when I had no intention of buying. Every favorite is a data point.
→ Repeated this daily and waited. Months later, a woman in Wisconsin shipped me a complete set for $375.
The algorithm isn’t random. It’s watching what you engage with and it wants to serve you more of what you like (it wants to keep us on the app - duh!). Use that to your advantage!
Save this for your next vintage hunt and drop what you’re currently searching for in the comments. I’d love to hear it 👇
