Three-zipper bag tutorial - Revised
Supplies and Materials for Three-Zipper Project Bag
2 – 14# nylon handbag (long pull) zippers
1 – 10” or longer regular nylon zipper
3/8” washi tape (optional)
water soluble basting tape (ex: Dritz Wash Away)
thread
Main color fabric – (non-directional fat quarter)
Contrast color fabric - (non-directional fat quarter)
Lining fabric - (1/2 yard fabric)
Lightweight, woven, fusible, interfacing (ex: Pellon SF 101)
Fusible batting (ex: Pellon 987F)
1” lobster clasp with attached “D” Ring
“D” ring
Embellishments of choice (optional)
Rotary cutter, mat, and ruler, pins/clips, scissors, awl, fabric marking pen
Seam allowances (unless otherwise stated) 3/8”
Back tack all seams at both ends
Iron all finished seams as sewn
Fabrics- The bag can be made using two quilting fat quarters and ½ yard of lining fabric provided none have a directional pattern. If using directional fabrics, purchase ½ yard to insure adequate yardage.
Plan piece placement on all fabrics before cutting!
Cut from Main Fabric-
Cut 1 – 12” x 7” (upper back of bag)
Cut 1 – 2” x 10” (zipper sides)
Cut 1 – 12” x 9” (folded to be 12” x 4 ½” – center bag front)
Cut 1 – 12” x 4” (folded to be 12’ x 2” – top bag front)
Cut 1 - 12" x 7" (front pocket back)
Cut from Contracting Fabric- (Canvas is suitable only for the base of the bag.)
Cut 2 – 12” x 4 ½” (base of bag, front and back)
Cut 1 – 18” x 3 ½” (handle and connector piece)
Cut 1 – 3” x 6” (top zipper tab)
Cut from Lining Fabric-
Cut 2 – 12” x 10 ½” (bag lining)
Cut 2 – 10 x 6 ½” (inside pocket)
Lightweight woven interfacing
Cut 3 – 12” x 4 ½”
Cut 1 – 12” x 7”
Cut 1 – 12” x 2”
Cut 1 – ¾” x 18”
Batting
Cut 2 – 12” x 10”
Scrap ~ 2” x 2”
