Paralyzed High School Teen Walks for Diploma

PART TWO
(KUTV) High school graduate Chance Sackett who was paralyzed by a gunshot wound in 2012 walked today across the stage for his diploma.

It's 12 years in the making for hundreds of students at Copper Hills High School, but for Sackett, it's performing an unimaginable feat.

"I was thinking the entire time, 'I'm not going to look up at the crowd, then I'll get nervous,'" Sackett said. "So I never looked at the crowd or focused on them at all."

Sackett crossed the stage with his parents, family and friends watching every step.

"I was thinking, 'Oh my goodness, he doesn't have his crutches and there is no buffer on the stage it looks pretty hard,'" said Chance Sackett's mother, Michelle Sackett.

Chance was injured in February of 2012 when he and his father were cleaning guns and his father accidentally shot him.

"It entered right in the back of my neck and then out my left shoulder," Chance said.

He was told he would never walk again.

Today Chance beat the odds.

"Now it's a new chapter," he said.
