The Floating Village - Moments in Time S2.4
On our season finale of Moments in Time, we are joined by Thomas Tham and Sithy Hengchan, as we charter a boat along the Tonle Sap to visit the unique village of Kampong Phluk where the houses are suspended on top of 30-foot stilts in order to survive the dramatic changes in water level. Often referred to as the floating village during the wet season, we have the rare opportunity to walk along the foundations of the colorful homes.
Thomas Tham has spent many years consulting with NGOs across SE Asia to help improve the lives of the people in small and rural villages. In Cambodia, he specializes in documenting the true stories and lives of the people in order to inspire positive awareness and change. In doing so he often spends years living in the small villages to really get to know the people living there before he even picks up the camera.
Sithy Hengchan is a very talented and passionate guide who runs tours all over Cambodia. He first started taking photos to market his tours but he has discovered that taking photos is his true passion and he wants the world to be inspired by the beauty of Cambodia and the resilience of the people. He’s part of the generation of young entrepreneurs that are making a living for themselves while giving back to the communities they care about.
Jessica Lim has been drawn to Siem Reap for many years and for more than a decade, she has been organizing the Angkor Photo Festival which takes place once per year in Siem Reap, and provides free education to all attendees. She explains why having these events are so important to the SE Asian community and how the entire event is possible due to the kindness and generosity of the international artists that visit and teach.
