What do you do when someone steals or copies your intellectual property? Intellectual property theft is the correct term. You can file a DMCA claim against the thief and try to get the copied work shut down or you can embrace the fact that people are acknowledging your work enough, to copy from it. This is a question that I've been faced with many times over the years and if you're an entrepreneur or creative, I'm sure you have too. In this video, I chat with Ebon Blak about my thoughts on how I handle someone copying or stealing my intellectual property. If you do decide to file a lawsuit against someone in hopes of collecting royalties for stolen work, the best thing that you could do is allow the creator of the copied work to continue flourishing. Being able to prove that the thief made lots of money off your work, will only help your lawsuit. The legal term for that is "unjust enrichment". If you shut down the creator of the stolen work before the stolen work starts to generate lots of income, there will be no money to claim in your lawsuit. There is a saying "imitation is the best form of flattery".
