The best 3-9 team in College Football history is easily the 2021 Nebraska Cornhuskers. This team was a statistical outlier in multiple ways. Not only did they outscore all of their opponents by 63 points (335-272), but they also tied with all of their Big Ten opponents (239-239) despite going just 1-8 in Big Ten play. They beat Northwestern by 49 points, and then lost eight Big Ten games by a combined 49 points. They also played a very tough schedule, and came close to beating multiple top teams.
