After putting a captured bird in loft, I noticed a pigeon louse on my birds. A very rare occurrence in my yard. The pigeon louse or pigeon fly, is a type of biting fly in the family of louse flies. The flat body shape allows them to slide between the feathers and move around in the feathers of their hosts. They feed on blood and can carry malaria. Creepy little things none the less and you don't need them in your loft. There are also other types of louses which are more common and types of lice.
