Dubai entry procedures during COVID-19 UPDATED

The procedures for flying Emirates to Dubai and other destinations continue to change frequently.
Always refer to the below link for accurate and updated information prior to your date of travel:

By now I have already re-entered Dubai twice since the pandemic. I made a video about arrival procedures before and this one is an update. The experience I share here is a reflection of a trip I made to Egypt using Dubai as a connection and then retuning to Dubai after a short visit to Egypt.

The video is split into the 4 stages of the passenger journey:

00:47 BEFORE YOU FLY

- VISA: Dubai is open and the visit visa policies have been reestablished (see below).
Dubai Visa Guide: https://www.visitdubai.com/en/plan-your-trip/visa-information

- Travel Insurance: Emirates now covers every passenger for COVID-19 but some destinations still require you to present proof of medical insure that covers other eventualities other than COVID. It is the case for Egypt and I had to procure insurance in order to be allowed on the flight.

- PCR test: All passengers flying to or through Dubai must present a negative certificate during check in and it will only be accepted if your arrival to Dubai falls within less than 96 hours from the time you took the test. I witnessed passengers being denied boarding because they were counting 96 hours from the result - WATCH FOR THIS!!! Emirates also holds a list of "authorized laboratories" around the world (see below). If you don't find the country you are flying from on that list, just make sure it is from a highly reputable lab.

2:14 CHECK IN

- Present your travel documents (PCR documents, insurance if applicate, visa etc)
- Sign a "Health Declaration Form", confirming that, to the best of your knowledge, you do not have COVID-19 symptoms

2:32 ONBOARD

- Travel Hygiene Kit and Mask Usage: Emirates offers you a travel hygiene kit containing masks, gloves, sanitizing gel and sanitizing wipes. Mask use is mandatory throughout the entire flight (except when eating or drinking) and gloves are also compulsory during security if you are connecting.

- Quarantine Undertaking Form: The crew distributes a form, where you basically commit to complying to the regulations which include for example downloading the app and quarantining while you await for test results (if you need to re-test) or if you test positive at any stage of your trip.

3:38 AT DUBAI AIRPORT

For most passengers, there are no further procedures. Once you land, you will go through immigration and exit the airport, with no need to quarantine. You will simply follow the precautionary measures which Dubai has in place (ie. everyone must wear masks in public spaces and maintain social distance).

- PCR Re-test: despite presenting a negative certificate prior to boarding, you must take another PCR test if you are flying from selected countries. Both Egypt and Brazil are on that list, so I had to re-test. There are Emirates personnel guiding you after you disembark to make sure that you get your test done if you need to. There are also two check points before you exit the airport where they verify your boarding pass and the stickers which confirm that you have taken the test if you need to.

- Quarantine: If you need to re-test, you must also remain in isolation until the results are out. You are allowed to take your transport but should not leave your home or hotel. The results usually come out in less than 24 hours. in my first entry in July, it took 23 hrs and this time it took 17 hrs.

I hope this video clarified many of the questions you had when I released the previous video. I also hope that it helps you make a well informed decision about whether or not you are comfortable with traveling these days.

My experience after 13 flights, 4 countries, 7 airports and 5 PCR tests since July 15th, has given me confidence that the environment to which we are exposed (airports, planes) is way more controlled than what it was back in February, when COVID-19 had been spreading.
