Delivery with Nuchal Cord

This animation depicts a delivery complicated by a nuchal cord (umbilical cord around the infant's neck). A lateral cut-away view of the mother reveals her spine, pubic bones and the infant as delivery begins. We see that a nuchal cord is wrapped three times around the neck. Contractions move the infant down the birth canal. As the infant crowns, the nuchal cord is noted, and is easily slipped over the infant's head. The infant is delivered.
