Based on a copyist's manuscript and the "Hamburg version", this reconstruction aims to offer an approximation of Mahler's original thoughts regarding his First Symphony. It differs from the "standard" version of the work in the number of movements (5), employs a smaller orchestra and fewer instruments, and is different in dynamics, tempo structure, and orchestration. But most of all, it features musical material in the Finale which Mahler subsequently replaced.
