Quartz vs. Quartzite
Quartz and Quartzite are both popular materials for projects at Marble.com. Although, both are durable and make visually stunning choices for countertops, they have some significant differences.
Quartz is an engineered stone that is made up of 95% quartz and 5% polymer resins. It is nonporous and does not require sealing, making it ideal for high traffic kitchens and bathrooms. Quartz comes in thousands of colors and has consistent patterns that make seams virtually invisible.
Quartzite is a completely natural stone formed by heating and pressure under the Earth's crust. It bears a striking resemblance to marble because of its white and gray colors, while being better suited for high traffic areas because it is less porous. Quartzite is also highly resistant to heat and scratches. Sealing twice per year is required.
