Repainting the Salmon in the Alaska Brown Bear Diorama

This iconic diorama features a rare non-mammalian star: the salmon, caught by an otter and poached by two hungry bears. During the restoration, conservators took great care while updating the model for scientific accuracy.

The restored Hall of North American Mammals reopened October 2012.
