REST vs GraphQL vs gRPC — What Actually Works at Scale?

REST vs GraphQL vs gRPC — What should you use at scale?

There’s no single winner. It depends on traffic, latency, and who consumes the API.

REST
Public APIs, mobile apps, simple CRUD.
Easy to scale, great with caching, but can over-fetch.

GraphQL
Complex frontends and SaaS dashboards.
Flexible queries, fewer round trips, but harder to cache and needs strict limits.

What I use in real systems:
REST and GraphQL for external clients.
gRPC for internal services.
CDN and caching to protect everything.

Context more then hype. Architecture is always trade-offs.

What’s your stack at scale?
