Boat on fire in Toronto Islands on Lake Ontario

Cruising through the channels of the Toronto Islands I came upon a boat on fire in the channel. At first I thought it was a movie set or a training session or something but I soon realized there was no one in sight.

The boat was abandoned and was burning pretty heavily from the motor. I saw no one was around so I decided to go and try and extinguish the fire when Firemen approached from an Ambulance Station directly behind where the boat was burning and put the fire out.

It is obvious why one should always have a working, proper class, Fire Extinguisher on board at all times! Luckily for these people they were close to shore and abandoned ship. The results could have been devastating had they been on open water.

I did have some concerns as to what the were spraying on the fire/in the water as far as it's toxicity but I guess it was necessary to extinguish this gas fire.

Check your safety equipment regularly and always obey the rules of the waterways!
