Overlapped Seam Construction

An overlapping seam is often used in sail making and some canvas work, especially when sewing awnings, canopies, and some covers. It is the easiest seam to create and sew.

OVERLAPPING SEAM PROPERTIES:
1. Fabric Should be Cut with a Hotknife
2. Easy to Sew
3. Efficient Fabric Usage (1/2” seam will take up 1/2” of fabric)
4. 90% Fabric Strength
5. Not as Water Resistant
6. Threads are Exposed to the Sun
