China is one of the world’s greatest civilizations. How did it evolve? Was there an earlier prototype of China? Is the ancient historical record well-grounded? Is the 5,000 years of Chinese history credible?

China Before China is an eight-episode documentary series based on archaeological discoveries and research, dedicated to all the people who shaped China for millennia.

We’ll see this civilization in its infancy, as small settlements flourish in the mountains and river valleys. We'll witness these settlements come together to form villages, and the villages form states, paving the way for the birth of the Dynasties of the Xia, the Shang, the Zhou, and the Qin and the Han.

We'll explore 5,000 years of civilization and trace the origins of China before China.
