Making Agriculture in Europe More Sustainable With Intercropping
How can we feed a growing population without destroying our planet? Current farming practices heavily rely on synthetic #fertilizers and #monocropping, thereby damaging soils and producing high levels of greenhouse gases.
We need more #sustainable agriculture practices. This is where #intercropping comes in. Intercropping is an ancient agricultural practise where two or more plant species are grown simultaneously in the same field. It can increase crop yields, improve soil health, and reduce the need for synthetic fertilizers. Best of all, intercropping can help combat climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
LEGUMINOSE is an EU-funded project that aims to make legume-cereal intercropping a mainstream farming practice.
