🚨 Las Vegas Woman Pleads Guilty in $98 Million COVID-19 Tax Credit Scam 💸

Candies Goode-McCoy, a Las Vegas woman, pleaded guilty to defrauding the U.S. government by submitting fake claims for COVID-19 employment tax credits. Between June 2022 and September 2023, McCoy and others filed approximately 1,227 fraudulent tax returns, claiming over $98 million in tax credits. The IRS paid out about $33 million before the scam was discovered. McCoy personally received over $1.3 million in fraudulent refunds, spending the illicit funds on luxury cars, gambling, and vacations. The case highlights the misuse of pandemic-era tax relief programs like the employee retention credit (ERC) and paid sick leave credits, which were meant to help struggling businesses. McCoy faces up to 10 years in prison, restitution, and financial penalties, with sentencing scheduled for February 2026.
