2nd Alarm Fire Threatens Comfort Inn and Suites Hotel, Evacuating Around 100 Guests

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 10-29-23, 10:55 P.M.
LOCATION: 2620 South Hotel Terrace
CITY: Santa Ana
DETAILS: Orange County Fire Authority responded to reports of a palm tree fire near a structure.
When first responding units arrived they found multiple palm trees on fire next to a Comfort Inn and Suites hotel and immediately called for a 2nd alarm response.
Multiple cars in the parking lot were damaged.
A small area of the roof did receive some fire damage due to the palm fronds casting embers, but it does not appear that any of the rooms were affected.
According to a hotel employee, approximately 100 people were evacuated to the rear of the hotel, away from the fire and should be able to return within a few hours.
There were no injuries to any civilians or firefighters.
At this time, it appears that the fire started in a bush and took off due to high winds and spread to the palm tree’s.
Fire investigators are on scene investigating the cause.
