In appreciation for some welcome NSW State Government funding, Sydney Dragway management invited Gladys Berejiklian to "rubber stamp" the new all-concrete track with a lap in Maurice Fabietti's blown Monaro. In response, Gladys said that she would rather "stay alive" long enough for a couple of laps in a sprintcar when the new speedway was completed, after which she would consider officially signing off on the new dragstrip. In the meantime, Gladys sent the new Minister for Sport and cabinet elected stuntman, Dr. Geoff Lee to report back instead on whether the new Sydney Dragway surface would yield times on par with the United States. However, when Geoff reported back to the NSW Premier after the run that driver Mark Hinchelwood clicked at three-quarter track and pulled the chutes early, Gladys demanded that Geoff immediately send her a picture of the timeslip. Apparently outraged by the dismal 7.1 second elapsed time and unmentionable MPH, Ms. Berejiklian fired off an email to Sydney Dragway demanding why she had paid for a full quarter mile dragstrip while only 75% of it was being used. After then watching a video of Dr. Lee's pass, Gladys demanded a re-run, this time with her in the passenger seat, citing that Mr. Fabietti should, "stop talking and start tuning" after Gladys noted that the launch on Geoff Lee's pass and the horrifyingly slow 60 foot time indicated that the clutch was set way too soft. Gladys Berejiklian has since demanded that Mr. Fabietti's team be disallowed from leaving the Sydney Dragway facility until the entire engine and driveline combination from their REAL race car is transferred to the two-seater AND a Motec dash and shift-light be fitted in front of Ms Berejiklian so that she can monitor that the car is running at optimum during the pass.
