Is an M.2 Heatsink Necessary for an NVMe SSD? I tested an Intel 600p to find the answer for myself. The test setup included an Akasa Galileo fanless heatsink-case, Gigabyte H170TN motherboard, 4 GB of RAM, and an Intel i3-7100T CPU. The 250 GB 600p was tested with no heatsink, with four small heatsinks on the controller, and with a full M.2 heatsink.

The M.2 heatsink tested was a generic heatsink from Amazon seller Neeyer.

All M.2 NVMe drives purchased as part of a Fully Silent PC at fullysilentpcs.com will be fitted with an M.2 heatsink at no extra cost.

Available for sale are fully silent computers, built with no moving parts. The computers utilize passive heatsinks to dissipate the heat into the air. A variety of models are available with a variety of latest generation processors and SSD storage options. These PCs are great for general use or as home theater PCs. They have zero fans, zero spinning disks, and therefore zero noise! They are available at the link above.
