STEVEN SEAGAL called out by CHARLIZE THERON, who says he can barely fight.

In this video I talk about why Steven Seagal was mocked by Charlize Theron during an interview with Howard Stern on Sirius XMs “The Howard Stern Show”. Charlize Theron got real candid when talking about Steven Seagal while promoting her new Netlfix movie, The Old Guard.

She said, “He’s (Steven Seagal) overweight and can barely fight… look it up, it’s ridiculous”. Charlize Theron says, “At night I’ll go online to watch fighters or watch people fight and you always come across that odd Seagal video of him fighting in Japan, but he really isn’t”. Now the reason she’s even looking up these videos is because of the characters she plays, like Atomic Blonde or this latest Netflix outing, The Old Guard for example, is because she needs to come across as someone who looks like they know how to fight, at least on film.

As far as her comments about Steven Seagal go, I don’t really think that’s fair, he’s clearly putting on a demonstration and his students are clearly cooperating. If they weren’t they’d get hurt, they’re going with the momentum of the technique.

She goes on and says, “He’s just incredibly overweight and pushing people”. She insinuated that the fight was not real because there was no effort in his moves “He’s shoving people by the face, it’s a whole setup”. I think she’s clearly missing the point. Say what you want about Aikido as martial art, but Seagal is truly masterful in his technique. Of course there’s little effort on his part, at his level (7th dan) black belt there should be little effort, and Aikido is quite the opposite of wrestling where you overpowering the other man, with Aikido you’re supposed to utilize their bodyweight and momentum against them. But Seagal is much more than an Aikido master, he also holds black belts in Karate, Judo and Kendo.

Now there’s another reason why she’s so vocal about her disdain for the Aikido master. She states that he was been cruel to women in the past and says “I have no problem talking crap about Seagal because he’s not very nice to women… so F you!”. She’s referring to the accusations from Jenny McCarthy in 2017 who accused Seagal of asking her to take her clothes off during an audition for “Under Siege 2”.

McCarthy claims that Steven told her, “you know, this part has nudity in it and I can’t really tell what your body looks like in that dress you’re wearing”. Not to defend Steven, but I guess That could be a semi-valid case perhaps. But, assuming that accusation is actually true, do you guys think it’s fair to fat shame Steven Seagal and trash his martial arts skills? Oh and by the way, of course Steven Seagal refuted those accusations. But what’s more interesting is that Warner Brothers, the studio behind the 1995s Under Siege 2, subsequently denied that McCarthy ever even auditioned for it. So, it’s really hard to say what happened if anything.

You know personally what I’d absolutely love to see? Unlike Steven Seagal, it’s not Jenny McCarthy’s nude body. What I really want to see is this. What if Seagal finally decided to really get back into shape, into fighting shape. Not so much to put a stop to the haters fat shaming him, but rather for general health purposes. And in doing so, what if he finally gave us Under Siege 3 instead of that straight to video garbage? Sorry Steven, you know you can do better, we know you can do better. Apparently there was a solid script for Under siege 3 going back all the way to 2007.

So what do you guys think about Charlize Theron’s comments? It’s not like Steven Seagal ever portrayed himself as this fitness enthusiast, he was never into building his body up like Schwarzenegger, Stallone or Van Damme. Is it really ok to fat shame him? I mean, I don’t think any one would get a pass if they fat shamed a woman. There's clearly a double standard here. But more importantly, I don’t think his martial arts should skills should be scoffed at, especially by an actress like Charlize Theron.

Steven Seagal is the first westerner to have his own school in Japan, that just doesn’t happen. And I know that a lot of people like to refer to Seagal, or even Aikido as a whole as Bullshido, but there are elements that can be used, from pretty much any martial art in real life situations. While they may not be the ideal techniques, let’s not forget, it really wasn’t that long ago when people thought head kicks were ineffective, then you got a host of headkick knockouts In the UFC and that changed peoples perception about their effective use in combat against trained fighters. Now I’m not saying that Aikido will be the next style that gets effectively utilized in MMA, but I don’t think it’s nearly as ineffective as people think either, And let’s remember, Steven Seagal holds 3 other black belts in 3 other styles of martial arts. So I don’t really think an actress can justifiably talk crap about his aikido video while taking them out of context, especially when he’s just clearly putting on a demonstration.
