FAILURE- Bringing honesty to social media
https://groovelife.com/pages/affiliates-anne
This week, let's talk about failure. I spent two years working on Building a Roubo Style Kerfing Plane for Resawing Lumber, adding and changing little bits here and there, trying to improve upon an old design. Right before I completed the plane, the fence slipped during glueup, rendering this tool worthless. Rather than starting over and hiding that mistake caused by carelessness and being in a hurry, I thought it was important to talk about it. This certainly isn't the first or last time I've experienced failure on this level in the woodshop and I look forward to having the opportunity to make another, prettier, better functioning version of this tool the next time around, but the initial discovery of this failure was accompanied by a lot of tears and a few choice words my mom probably wouldn't approve of. I was frustrated with myself, with the materials, and needed to take some time to step away from the camera to figure out how to deal with it. But rather than gloss over my mistakes, I decided to make a video about my design process instead, and hopefully you learn a thing or two along side me!
