Lewis Hamilton has reportedly raised concerns about Ferrari’s current technical direction, with one particular area coming under the spotlight: the front wing.

According to reports from the paddock, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion has been closely analysing the differences between Ferrari’s aerodynamic philosophy and Red Bull’s, especially when it comes to how airflow is managed around the front tyres. It may sound like a minor technical detail, but in modern Formula 1, this can have a huge impact on the overall balance, stability, and performance of the entire car.

Red Bull’s concept is built around what’s known as “outwash.” In simple terms, airflow is pushed outward around the front wheels to reduce turbulence caused by the rotating tyres, helping deliver cleaner air toward the floor and diffuser. That aerodynamic efficiency has become one of Red Bull’s major strengths in recent seasons. Ferrari, by contrast, appears to be following a different concept, one that leans more toward “inwash,” where airflow is directed inward instead. That changes the aerodynamic behaviour of the car completely, influencing how vortices are generated and how airflow interacts with the floor, sidepods, and rear end.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Ferrari’s concept is wrong, because Formula 1 cars are designed as complete aerodynamic packages. But when a driver with Lewis Hamilton’s experience reportedly points to a specific technical area, it naturally raises questions. The British driver’s reported comments can be interpreted in two ways. On one hand, they may represent a clear technical assessment of an area that could be limiting Ferrari’s performance.

On the other, they may reflect increasing competitive pressure and a desire to see Ferrari move closer to the benchmark technical solutions currently associated with Red Bull. With Ferrari under growing pressure to close the gap to Red Bull, this front wing discussion could become one of the most important technical stories to watch in the coming races.
