Preventing Flystrike by dagging sheep - How we do it on our smallholding.

Sheep dagging or cutting away the poop from the back end of a sheep is not the most pleasant experiences but it is essential.Sheep get mucky bums for all sorts of reasons.

The main reasons are as follows:
1. Mineral deficiencies
2. Worms

3. Too rich a diet

4. Long wool around bottoms prior to annual shearing.
I'm sure there are other reasons, but we find that these are main culprits.
Choose a cool day and use electric shears. Have antibacterial spray at hand, and oil for the shears. A head brace is very useful and having someone else to help a god send.

Remember this is not a quick job but with luck it may only need doing once a year or twice if you are unlucky.
