HEC TALKS: A Conversation between Nobel Laureate Daniel Kahneman and HEC Professor Olivier Sibony

On October 7, 2021, HEC Paris will have the honor of welcoming Daniel Kahneman, Emeritus Professor at Princeton University and 2002 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences Laureate, in a conversation with Olivier Sibony, HEC Paris professor of Strategy.

A psychologist and economist, Daniel Kahneman is renowned for his work on the psychology of judgment and decision making. One of the world's most influential thinkers, he challenged the notion that economic decisions are perfectly rational, and studied how people really make decisions. In 2002, he was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for the development of Prospect Theory, in which he integrated insights from psychological research into economic science, and established a cognitive bias for common human errors that arise from heuristics and biases. His findings paved the way for a new field of research called behavioral economics.

In 2011, his book “Thinking, Fast and Slow” topped the New York Times International Bestseller list. This book summarizes Kahneman's research over several decades, covering his work on cognitive biases, prospect theory and happiness. In 2021, Kahneman published “Noise” with co-authors Olivier Sibony, HEC Paris professor of Strategy and Cass Sunstein, professor at Harvard Law School.

Today, Daniel Kahneman is Professor of Psychology and Public Affairs Emeritus at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, the Eugene Higgins Professor of Psychology Emeritus at Princeton University, and a Fellow of the Center for Rationality at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
