Grevy’s (imperial) Zebra (Equus grevyi)

Named after Jules Grévy who was President of France from 1879 to 1887
Grevy’s zebra Distinguished by the very narrow, close together and elegant stripes, striking frame and gait. Their berry is white with no stripes and have large ears that are thickly furred inside.

Grevy’s zebra are found in Kenya and Ethiopia. In Kenya they are found in Samburu, Meru, Laikipia and Marsabit. Grevy’s zebra are considered a rare species that is endangered from extinction. The species population has reduced from 15,000 in 1970s to approximately 2812 in 2018. Some events such as Great Grevy’s Rally census are worth noting for their effort in maintaining the species numbers and welfare.

Other species of zebra include Mountain and Plain Zebra

Mountain zebra are found in Zambia, for Plain Zebra they are found in Kenya and spread all the way to South Africa. In Kenya they are mainly found in Nakuru County.
