From this perspective, the Grand Bazaar is perhaps one of the most important and complex projects developed by the Ottoman Empire.

Because in its 500-year existence, the Empire experienced incredible changes, encountered successes and failures, and implemented many grand projects. But today, none of them survive. On the other hand, massive industries were established, shipyards and mints were built, schools and palaces were constructed. But today, very few of these can continue to fulfill their original function.

However, the Grand Bazaar, as a giant mechanism that ensured the vitality of the Empire's product identity and economy, was defined, organized, built, developed, and has survived to this day. During this long period, it faced many significant problems, experienced earthquakes, burned, and was destroyed, but each time it was quickly repaired and redeveloped.

The Grand Bazaar covers an area of ​​110,868 m², with 45,000 m² of covered space, 3,600 shops on 65 streets, and 14 inns. Although many have changed today, it is possible to understand what was done and sold there in the past through the names of the streets and inns of the Grand Bazaar.
