Contested and Brokered Conventions
Party conventions can be unifying events or they can be contentious. When no candidate has a majority of delegates and multiple presidential candidates at the convention fight over their party’s nomination, the convention is considered to be an open convention, or more specifically, a contested convention or brokered convention. This video explains circumstances that can lead to contested and brokered conventions, and it describes scenarios that can resolve the conflict.
