VISSARION. Siberian Jesus Is GONE!?

Vissarion, a.k.a. Siberian Jesus, a.k.a. Sergey Torop is a very interesting person. He managed to build a small secluded paradise in a distant siberian village and kept it intact for almost 26 years. But everything good comes to an end - on September 22nd, 2020, he was detained together with his closest aides. Let's remember who this person is and how did he became a God for his people.

Sergey Anatolyevitch Torop was a simple russian guy who worked as a traffic officer, electrician and mechanic. But in 1991 he had a "spiritual awakening" and started to call himself a reincarnation of Jesus Christ. He founded the "Church of the Last Testament" with its head church located in the Siberian Taiga in the Minusinsk Depression east of Abakan, in the small settlement of Petropavlovka. He teaches reincarnation, veganism, and apocalypse. He has more than 10,000 followers around the world with 200 of them living in an Abode of Dawn - a place that they have built themselves. His religion combines elements of the Russian Orthodox Church with Buddhism, apocalypticism, collectivism, and ecological values. His followers observe strict regulations, including abstaining from meat, smoking, drinking alcohol. Money are also prohibited in the Abode of Dawn.

It is not clear what will happen to the disciples now that their leader has been arrested, nor is it clear why authorities decided to move now. The official Russian Orthodox church has long condemned the group but officials have largely left the devotees alone. Some Russian media outlets reported that the community had become involved in a dispute with local business interests.
