Consumer Reports: Swimming safely this summer
Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death for children ages 1 through 4, with black children having more than twice the risk compared to white children. Teaching children to swim early and providing water safety education for parents and caregivers can prevent these tragedies. Adults should supervise children closely around water, use U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets, and ensure pools have secure fencing. Sunscreen, such as Coppertone Water Babies Lotion SPF 50, is recommended for outdoor protection.
