BMFA Scale Indoor Nationals 2026 - Mat Dawson Flying a VMC Chipmunk
BMFA Scale Indoor RC Nationals 2026 – Competition flight by Mat Dawson flying his sweet Chipmunk.
These Chipmunks are fantastic little models — easy to detail, full of character, and always a conversation starter. Whenever I’ve flown mine at indoor meets it draws plenty of attention, especially from former ATC folks who trained on the full‑size aircraft. And really, who can resist that classic de Havilland charm?
As a club model it’s brilliant, but in competition it can be a tougher prospect. The slightly higher stall speed means it carries more pace than judges typically like to see in Kit Scale.
Kits are available from the Vintage Model Company. Although originally designed for free flight, the control surfaces are already laid out for straightforward conversion to micro RC.
Thinking about entering Kit Scale?
If you’ve ever fancied building something for the Indoor Nationals, Kit Scale is honestly one of the best ways to start. The models are straightforward, the flying is relaxed, and the community is incredibly welcoming. You don’t need exotic materials or advanced skills — just a kit, some patience, and the willingness to have a go.
If you’ve been sitting on the fence, consider this your nudge. Pick a kit you love, build it over a few evenings, and bring it along. You’ll learn loads, meet great people, and you might be surprised at how achievable it all is.
