Building a Hydrogen Generator

We attempt to build a device which I've wanted to make for over 2 years, an electrolytic hydrogen generator.
Constructing the device out of PVC pipe, nickel electrodes and a sodium hydroxide electrolyte, we manage to generate around 15 litres of hydrogen gas in about 9 hours, using a 12 volt power supply (in the future, I plan on increasing the efficiency of this device by increasing the concentration of electrolyte).
