Pseudoregalia - Final Battle and Ending (If You Can Call It One) - PC Gameplay - N64 Metroidvania

The final battle and ending to the game Pseudoregalia. A homage to the N64 era of gaming its a 3D platforming style Metroidvania that you can imagine being released on the system back in the day.

With retro style N64 graphics and teeth grindingly frustrating gameplay is Pseudoregalia a good game? Yes it definitely is but its also one with a lot of flaws. Whilst the game is clearly a love letter to the N64 and that time period the game does feel incomplete in a lot of sections.

First there is pretty much NO story. You start off in a Dungeon not knowing anything and then manage to escape to the upper area of the castle. From here the game just throws you in at the deep end of the pool and tells you absolutely nothing. It gives you zero story and just allows you to roam almost everywhere on the entire map and whilst this seems interesting at first it can very quickly become frustrating due to not knowing where you need to go, then going to an area on the map thinking you can advance due to a power up only to find that actually you can't....but it doesn't tell you this and can spend hours trying to get past an area only to either fail or SOMEHOW succeed and then realise your not meant to be there and you've just glitched your game (Happened to me twice).

The games enemies also seem pointless with combat being very very bad. There are no bosses and you only really feel threatened when trapped in a room with multiple enemies. However at the very last stretch of the game it just throws you into this boss fight with a character that has no story or explanation given to them. Then once you defeat them you get this....ending...which can barely be called that.
Essentially everything was a dream and nothing mattered because Sybil herself wasn't real and it was all just something the Princess dreamt up?

I did love this game for the N64 style homages, The mind taxing platforming, The interesting concept of the game itself. However it feels like it is missing a lot that it should have to make it from just a good game to a great game.
