John Lee Hooker Lesson

I charted out "I'm In the Mood", John Lee Hooker's follow-up hit to "Boogie Chillen" and one of the best selling blues tunes of all time. There's a 5 bar intro (instead of 4), the first verse has two measures that are two beats "too short", the solo's 8 bars-- it's crazy! The 12 bar standardized blues format can really become rigid in players' minds, but it's a relatively new phenomena and it was no limitation to John Lee Hooker! Adding an extra two beats here and shortening the form there can create a freer expression-- try it out. The two finger E chord is also something I hope you can use.

I'll be posting a lesson on the blues greats once a week which will always be free. Small donations are gratefully accepted via paypal at rjohnnyband@gmail.com or venmo at Johnny-Burgin-1. Thank You!
