Epigenetics: You are what you eat | Jennifer Dechaine | TEDxYakimaSalon
What makes you who you are? Your genes are important, but research in epigenetics suggests that environment, such as the food you eat or the experiences you have, can affect you, and maybe even your children and grandchildren at a genetic level!
Biologist and science educator at Central Washington University, Jennifer’s research focuses on the epigenetic (non-genetic) and genetic mechanisms underlying how plants adapt to stressful environments. Understanding how genes and environment interact to help plants tolerate drought, for example , is a first step in improving agriculture productivity in the face of climate change, rapid population growth and heightened competition for land and water.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
