Jeff Bezos Predicts Space-Based Data Centers Within 20 Years
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has a bold vision for the future of computing: by 10 to 20 years from now, gigawatt-scale data centers could be floating in space. Speaking at Italian Tech Week, Bezos explained that these space-based centers would take advantage of the constant, uninterrupted solar energy available outside Earth’s atmosphere and could eventually outperform traditional data centers on the ground.
The rapid expansion of AI and cloud computing has led to growing demands for energy and water to keep servers cool. To bypass the limitations of Earth’s resources, tech companies are increasingly exploring the idea of moving high-performance computing infrastructure off-planet. According to Bezos, space could offer a sustainable solution for powering the next generation of data-hungry technologies.

Salesforce, however, insists that its systems remain secure, and the claims have not been independently verified. The incident has sparked fresh concerns about supply chain vulnerabilities and the growing sophistication of ransomware groups targeting cloud platforms.
