Brexiteer Patrick O'Flynn has slammed French President Emmanuel Macron by saying he’s “far less astute” than he’s given credit for if he thinks Prime Minister Boris Johnson will beg for a Brexit trade deal with the EU.
It comes as the Frenchman ordered chief negotiator Michel Barnier to ask for “frankly laughable” demands from the UK in fisheries in a bid to get the UK to cave at the 11th hour in the trade negotiations.
Mr Barnier headed back to Brussels today as talks with UK counterpart Lord David frost ended in a stalemate after the late demands from the EU.
It was hoped a draft agreement would be ready for the PM and EU chiefs such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Ursula von der Leyen, however with the late intervention this now seems unlikely in the next few days.

EMMANUEL MACRON has been torn apart by a Brexiteer after the French President was said to want the EU to walk away without a trade deal and wait for the UK to return to the negotiating table in 2021 to beg for an agreement.
The UK and EU remained locked in trade deal negotiations in London which stretched deep into Friday evening in a desperate bid to make a breakthrough that could secure an agreement after Brexit. Michel Barnier and Lord Frost have paused talks with Boris Johnson and European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen to hold a further showdown on Saturday in a bit to break the deadlock. There are fears trade talks are on the verge of collapse with a senior Number 10 source claiming on Thursday evening Brussels was calling for fresh concessions at the 11th hour and that the prospect of an agreement was "receding".
Significant gaps still remain, one of which is around the amount of access EU fishermen will have into British waters after Brexit and how much of their catch they will be allowed to keep.
Mr Macron has become an increasingly vocal voice in this debate, repeatedly lashing out at the UK's negotiating stance on the issue, and is believed to want the EU to walk away from trade talks with the UK in the hope Britain would return next year in a desperate bid to agree new terms.
Brexiteer and political commentator Patrick O'Flynn launched a scathing attack against French leader and argued if he believed the British Prime Minister would beg then Mr Macron was “far less astute” than many give him credit for.
Writing for The Daily Telegraph, Mr O’Flynn said: "It is France – our nearest mainland European neighbour and favourite historical foe – that views our repatriation of national sovereignty as unconscionable.
"President Emmanuel Macron is said to believe that the EU side should walk away without a deal and then wait for a chastened UK to come crawling back desperate to agree terms early in 2021.
"If he genuinely thinks Britain is likely to buckle given an early taste of what no deal means, then he is a far less astute reader of international affairs than many have given him credit for.
The scathing blows come as Brexit trade negotiations between Lord David Frost and Michel Barnier were halted after 11th hour demands made by French President Emmanuel Macron threatened to sink the trade deal.
Mr Macron is said to have reverted to his original position of giving the UK only 18 percent more of the catch in it’s own waters for a period of 10 years. A position that UK officials called “frankly laughable”.
The UK government has reiterated its stance that it would like a deal but not at any cost and any potential deal must respect the UK's sovereignty.
A senior UK source said: "At the start of the week we saw Macron agitating with other EU capitals that they were giving away too much.
"Then you see Barnier bringing this back and the whole process goes backwards. I think everyone can join the dots.
"We want a deal but it has to be on the basis that we are a sovereign country again.
"Some people still seem to be struggling with the concept that we are going to be an independent country setting our own rules. If it stays like that there will be no deal."
