DON RICKLES (1926 – 2017) was an American stand-up comedian, actor, and author, especially for his insulting comedy. His film roles included Run Silent, Run Deep (1958) with Clark Gable, and Kelly's Heroes (1970) with Clint Eastwood, and beginning in 1976, he enjoyed a two-year run starring in the NBC television sitcom C.P.O. Sharkey. A headline performer at Las Vegas hotel-casinos and peripheral member of the Rat Pack via friendship with Frank Sinatra, Rickles received widespread exposure as a frequent guest on talk and variety shows, including The Dean Martin Show and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and Late Show with David Letterman.

Snyder was also the pioneer anchor of the primetime NBC News Update in the 1970s and early 1980s, a one-minute capsule of news updates primetime.
