Australia's Gold Rush History – Museum Tour & Living Collection | Hill End NSW
The world's largest known piece of gold came from Hill End, NSW — and the tip of it still exists. Malcolm Drinkwater has spent over 50 years living and researching in the Hill End goldfield, building Australia's most comprehensive private collection of gold rush history at History Hill Museum.
This video covers the science of what gold actually is, how it forms in supernovas, the difference between a specimen and a nugget, the remarkable story of Bernard Holtermann's empire, the significant role of Chinese migrants on the goldfields, how colonial inventions built on each other,
and what it was like underground in a working 1800s gold mine.
🎓 CURRICULUM ALIGNMENT

Also supports: Stage 4 (Years 7–8) — Making of the Modern World: colonial society, diversity, and daily life.
Cross-curriculum: Science (gold formation, atomic structure); Geography (NSW Central Tablelands).
